sand spikes

Dave, if its for use actually in sand , i have a short term fix till you get one made. I use a lenght of inch and a quarter waste pipe, i cut on the angle one end so it goes in easier and straight across the other end. Push it in the sand and stick the butt of the rod in the pipe, they are nice and light to!
you can also drill a hole through a foot or so from the bottom and put a section of threaded stud through it to make a foot peg to push it in with, you should be able to pick up a scrap piece from work where they have put the tray things up to carry cables ( cant remember what they are called but you know what i mean)

Next week " How to make Fire Guards From Discarded Fireworks" !

Hi Dave.
Why so long Dave, 5/6ft? 3½/4ft more than adequate mate. Go on fleebay, type in Sandspike.......you find some nice aluminum ones....real lightweight. Ian Golds Tackle do a nice one too. A mate made me a couple up a while ago and am well impressed with them. Very Happy

Fish low water up where big tidal range easier to use than tripod.

hi dave, i use my sandspikes all the time now......they are good in rough conditions too, when you need to keep your line over the top of a big surf. They will also hold your rod steadier than a tripod , specially when in a stiff breeze or strong tide run. One modification you could make Dave is to tie a 6in strip of velcro to the top of your sandspike,so as you can secure the rod in the rest in a strong ON -SHORE wind........a slack liner could result in the rod being blown backwards and out of the rest.......also make sure that your butt cap fits snuggly in the cup...modify it if need be.......a big whack on the rod by a fish or even a big clump of weed could 'bounce' the rod out of the cup if ill fitting............does that make sense? Smile bounce

Another thing i found with sandpikes..........if using two...set them about 6ft apart and 10ft in front of you.....much more user friendly.
