Anyone interested in live sand eels

Post  Baxter on Sun Feb 21, 2010 1:30 am

I have the number of a sand eel supplier where you can go and get them live And freeze them down yourself Or use fresh for that matter And they are a hell of a site cheaper than buying them 10 at a time im sure if you froze them individually on a sheet of glass or stainless steel tray they would be just as good. Or for that matter they can be kept alive in a airated tank to be float fish around the rocks etc.. Anyone need the number give me a shout

Seaford or Eastborne if my memory serves me correctly. They are right on the beach and have massive great big tanks they bring them straight in of the boat in tanks, and then put them in storage tanks with fresh sea water pumping in from the sea to the tanks. and you will be hard pressed to find anywhere as cheap as them. they have got to work well on the break water or down the side the admiralty for bass when alive or we can freeze them you still wont get them fresher than that. buy them live and freeze them yourself indoors.

Yes mate, its worth a trip down to see how it all works, at least we can see if they come directly from the sea and not farmed.
Plus we can get some to freeze down, and some to use live.

Do you get diferent sizes ?

Yeah im definatly up for a trip down there to have a look at the operation mate and im reasonabnly certain they do do them in different size grades and according to the write up i read about the company they do definately bring them in from the sea rather than breed them themselve, i doubt seriously you could get the conditions to breed them properly anyway.
Further to our conversation re: Peeler
Did you look on ebay for that peeler farming site cos i have to say they do look bloody good. Cant remember the prices ill get Jade to look up the website and forward you the link. (Haha its great having a secretary to write my messages)
