This years British Open Shore Angling Championship, will be hosted by the Deal Angling Club (1919). Entries are limited to the first 400 competitors. The championship will be fished from pegged positions throughout the beaches of Deal and Walmer.

There will be £6000 in prizes and pools. First prize £1000 and for the heaviest fish also a guaranteed £1000.

Fishing commences from 11.00 a.m. until 4 p.m. the 16th October 2011.

Guaranteed payouts in the British Open 2010 are: 1st £1000, 2nd £500, 3rd £300, 4th £200, 5th £150, 6th £100. Heaviest fish: £1000. Zone pool (6 payouts per zone). Plus many other prizes to be won.

The British Open Championship 2011 also incorporates: The British Open Ladies Championship; the British Open Junior Championship and the British Open Team Championship.

Mike B , Matt S, Brian N , and Dave A are entering a team under the Kent Coastal banner I believe.

I got my entry receipt back yesterday, I am number 62 so I suspect there are still plenty of pegs left

Closing date for postal entries is the 12th, you can enter on the day but thats an extra £2

No problem entering on the day, club open from 9am – 11 am. Re pier:

Rule 15 Ladies, Juniors and Disabled persons will be able to fish allocated sites on the pier stem instead of the beach. A limited number of places will be allocated for booking in advance (no match anglers).

Prospects and comments on this Sunday’s British Open.

For those nerds (like me) who like to take all the circumstances into consideration before they fish please read … if not, skip this bit. It looks like a high pressure is going to predominate the weather for the weekend. Should be sunny and light southeast winds. Although the sea is quite thick at the moment it might well clear a bit for Sunday. Sea temperature is 16.4, which is almost two degrees higher than it was this time last year.

Prospects on the fishing: Might be a bit difficult in the calm conditions, however, the proverbial dogfish and whiting should be caught. Codling are a bit thin on the ground and a few dabs are making a show. It wouldn’t surprise me if a 2kg plus bass is caught and that will go towards the lucky angler taking the £2000 for heaviest fish and aggregate weight. Under these conditions it is going to make a more level playing field for all the anglers with added difficulties for the hardened matchmen.

Draw for your peg and zone will take place at the Deal Angling Club (1919) HQ on the evening (Saturday) before the Open from 7p.m. – 10p.m. (bar will be open). Bag labels, catch cards, maps, size limits and rules will be available to all competitors; and there will be club officials to answer any questions. Please read the rules and ask questions to help with any confusion. This is normally a time for a chat about prospects and tactics. The club will also be open on the day of the event (Sunday) from 9a.m. -. 11a.m. to draw for pegs and zones etc. I have been informed late entries will be taken on the day and teams can also be entered.

Although the winning catch in the Open has come from the Sandwich zone for the last two years it has also been won from each other zone in the past … and I would not like to guess which will be the best this year. The zones have been streamlined and (hopefully) the snaggy and difficult areas have been left out. Zones and pegs will be clearly numbered and with the help of the map (pick one up at the draw) it should be easy to find your peg. Car parking is mainly free in the zones … but double check first.

Weighing in will take place at the rear of the club’s HQ, in the weigh-in shed, where two equally calibrated scales and two teams will deal with the fish. The club has hired a computer specialist and the final results will be issued as soon as possible. Visual results will be displayed on a board as soon as they are weighed and collated. These will be available in the clubhouse. The bar will be open.

Unconfirmed reports are that Desmond Lynam will be interviewing anglers for his Radio 4 program and the raffle table is going to be extra laden owing to the generosity of a well know tackle firm.

Hope this hasn’t made it too easy for you … and I wish you all the best of luck. One last point, please take your litter with you after the day’s fishing, there are plenty of litter bins situated along the beaches.
