Reliable source

Post  RickyG on Sun Mar 07, 2010 9:33 am

A reliable source has informed me that there is currently a spring run of cod passing through Folkestone, warren and mermaids bar seems best options. Also some bass are begining to show at the sands and again mermaids bar for anyone who is interested.

The fish are falling at night to small baits around 120yd-150yd out

Depends with work etc, Mermaids bar is:

Go to where the rotunda used to be, park in the car park at the end, then walk along the sea front towards sandgate, you will come to a rock wall reaching out to sea, the end of the rocks is sort of a Y shape (the mermaids tail) there is then a short stretch of beach and another rock outcrop thing, you want to fish the rotunda side of the first one you come to. It is quite snaggy but with a fast wind in you can normally get your gear back.

In the summer months spinning is good from the end of the rocks as well.

the other end if sandgate castle another good bit of ground. The car park is the nearest place to leave your car, its prob a 200 yard walk along the prom so no shingle or anything. you can see the car park in the top right corner of the picture

What else would you like to know, I have quite a good knowledge of marks in this area. Also I have good contacts in the fishing scene, tackle shop owners, club chairman, etc etc

the baits used seem to be small baits, ie one black with a bit of squid, at that mark you need to cast towards folkestone peir because of the rock groyne there. Most fishing are falling on the top of the tide down.

If you want the bass try a whole squid.

Unlucky Melv, you had a go mate, i am told that's a very good venue for summer bass spinning of those rocks.
Not sure how slippy they are, so be careful

If you going to fish the mermaids tail bit fish the sandgate side of it.
